Curator’s Notes

Filou is a strong Belgian blond beer from Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck, introduced in 2014 as a modern addition to the brewery’s portfolio. The beer’s name means “rascal” or “rogue”, reflected in the playful character shown on the glass launching hops from a slingshot.

The design marks a clear departure from the more traditional imagery used for some of the brewery’s older brands. Rather than drawing on history or place, Filou presents itself through personality, humour and a contemporary hop-focused identity.

The glass itself is a stemmed tulip design, combining the elegance of a goblet with the aroma-enhancing shape associated with modern strong ales. A nucleation point in the bowl helps maintain carbonation, confirming that the distinctive appearance is matched by a practical serving purpose.

This glass reflects a different side of Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck: a brewery using modern branding and character-driven design to introduce Belgian beer traditions to a newer audience.
