Manufactured 2024 Curator’s Notes A generously proportioned goblet with a large, gently flared bowl, substantial straight stem and broad decorated foot. Unusually for a glass of this shape, it is marked for both 33 cl and 50 cl serves. The Quintine name is embossed around the foot, while another small detail awaits the drinker: the witch motif appears again in the bottom of the bowl, revealed as the beer disappears.
That witch has deeper roots than the brewery branding might suggest. Quintine was a woman from Ellezelles accused of witchcraft and executed in 1610 alongside four other local women. Her story subsequently became part of the particularly rich folklore of Ellezelles, where witches remain strongly associated with the town and are celebrated through its annual Witches’ Sabbath. The brewery adopted her name for the Quintine beers, making the dark green witch flying across this glass a direct connection between beer, brewery and place.
