About this Brewery
Brasserie des Légendes is a family brewery rooted in the folklore of western Hainaut. It was created in 2006 through the merger of two small breweries: Brasserie des Géants at the medieval Castel d’Irchonwelz, near Ath, and Brasserie Ellezelloise at Ellezelles. The combined name reflects two local traditions: the famous giant puppets of Ath’s Ducasse procession and the Witches’ Sabbath of Ellezelles.
Its beers draw heavily on these local stories. Goliath and Gouyasse evoke the giants and history of Ath, while Quintine reaches into the witchcraft folklore of Ellezelles. La Corne du Bois des Pendus draws on another local legend, this time attached to the Ardennes village of Ébly. The brewery also produces its modern Légendaire Pils.
The storytelling extends beyond the names. Across its glassware, Brasserie des Légendes repeatedly turns folklore and local history into design: witches fly across glasses, historical references hide within logos, horns become drinking vessels and even the comparatively conventional Légendaire Pils glass contains unexpected details. It gives the brewery a particularly distinctive visual identity — one in which the glass is often part of the story.
The brewery grows much of its own barley at the family’s Beauregard farm, adding an unusually direct agricultural connection to this strong sense of place.
