Capacity 25cl Curator’s Notes One of the more elaborate glasses in the collection, this Pecheresse goblet combines a generously rounded clear bowl with a peach-coloured stem and foot. The lower bowl has a gently undulating profile as it rises from the stem, gradually becoming straighter towards the rim. The effect is subtle but gives the glass a distinctive, almost organic shape even before its decoration is considered.
An intricate brown Art Nouveau design wraps around the bowl, incorporating the Lindemans name, decorative flourishes and the face of a woman emerging from the artwork.
The woman is more than decoration. Pecheresse is a French wordplay linking pêche (peach) with pécheresse (a sinful woman or temptress), connecting the peach fruit lambic with the woman incorporated into the design. The original artwork was hand-drawn in 1987 by Nicole, wife of fifth-generation lambic brewer René Lindemans.
The decoration rewards looking at the glass from different angles: the woman is easily missed within the elaborate wrap-around design, making this a glass that reveals more of its character as it is turned in the hand.
