Curator’s Notes

A classic pilsner glass with just enough shaping to distinguish it from the simplest straight-sided examples. The 33 cl glass has gently rounded sides, a substantial base and a gold rim, with the sharp red, white and black 1784 Schelfaut Export badge providing the only decoration.

The apparently rather specific name reaches back into the history of Brouwerij Van Steenberge. 1784 is the brewery’s founding year, while Schelfaut commemorates Marie Schelfaut, a member of the family credited by the brewery with helping to preserve its independence in the early twentieth century. The modern beer revives an older regional export tradition from the Meetjesland.

Manufactured in 2022, the glass combines a conventional pilsner form with branding deliberately rooted in the brewery’s family and regional history.
