Brouwerij Van Steenberge

About this Brewery

Brouwerij Van Steenberge is an independent family brewery in Ertvelde, East Flanders, with a history reaching back to 1784. It was founded as Brouwerij De Peer by Jean-Baptiste De Bruyne, later passed through the Schelfaut and Van Steenberge families, and became Brewery Bios in 1919. Six generations of brewers have shaped the present business. The brewery specialises in strong, high-fermentation “live” beers, many of which continue to mature through secondary fermentation in bottle or cask. Its best-known beers include Gulden Draak, Piraat, Augustijn, Bornem, Fourchette and Baptist. Van Steenberge has brewed Augustijn since 1978, under an agreement with the Augustinian order, whose brewing tradition in Ghent dates to 1295.
