Manufactured 2023 / 2019 Curator’s Notes This pair of Brugse Zot glasses was bought at Brouwerij De Halve Maan in Brugge in 25cl and 33cl sizes. The design is identical apart from capacity, so the two are catalogued together as a single entry.
The glass is best described as a goblet with a strong influence from an elegant wine glass. Its gently tapered bowl flows cleanly into the stem and foot, creating a single, continuous profile that gives the glass a more refined appearance than many traditional Belgian beer goblets.
The front is dominated by the Brugse Zot name and the brewery’s colourful jester motif. More subtly, a depiction of De Halve Maan’s underground beer pipeline wraps around the bowl. Opened in 2016, the pipeline carries beer from the historic brewery in the centre of Brugge to the brewery’s bottling facility roughly 3.3 kilometres away, allowing production to remain in the city centre while avoiding large numbers of tanker movements through Brugge’s narrow streets.
The jester appears again moulded into the foot, together with the Brugse Zot name. These details turn what is already an elegant piece of glassware into something much more closely tied to the brewery’s identity and to one of the more unusual pieces of modern brewing infrastructure in Belgium.
