Manufactured 2018 Curator’s Notes There is something gloriously excessive about this Cornet Oaked glass. I paid €3 for it at a brocante, a price perhaps justified by the sheer quantity of glass involved. The enormous bowl initially seems ridiculously proportioned, until the markings reveal 33 cl, 50 cl and one-pint measures: one glass designed to cope with several different servings.
The design draws heavily on Cornet's knightly identity. The branding on the bowl incorporates stylised armour, repeated at much larger scale on the reverse, while the bowl tapers sharply into an unusually ornate, textured section of the stem. Even the structure of the glass seems to participate in the heraldic theme.
It is substantial, theatrical and not remotely understated – which seems entirely appropriate for a strong blond presented as Cornet Oaked.
