About this Brewery

Brouwerij Palm is the historic brewery at Steenhuffel, Flemish Brabant. Brewing at the former De Hoorn inn is documented from 1747. The business passed into the Van Roy family through marriage in 1908 and was rebuilt after its destruction during the First World War. Its top-fermented amber beer became Speciale Palm in 1929 and achieved national prominence following Brussels’ Expo 58. The brewery itself adopted the Palm name in 1975.

Palm became a classic example of the Belgian spéciale style, using pale and caramel malts to produce its characteristic amber colour. The Steenhuffel site also houses the smaller De Hoorn brewery, associated with the development of CORNET and other speciality beers.

The Dutch family brewer Bavaria acquired 60% of Palm Belgian Craft Brewers in 2016 and completed the purchase in 2021. The parent company is now known as Royal Swinkels, but Palm continues to be brewed at Steenhuffel.
