Curator’s Notes

A classic Belgian tulip carrying OMER.'s distinctive geometric identity. The brewery name is reduced to the emphatic OMER wordmark, topped by the small red shield, while a restrained white angular pattern wraps around the lower bowl. The same shield motif is engraved into the foot — a small detail easily missed when the glass is in use.

The glass is strongly associated with OMER. Traditional Blond, a strong blond beer whose branding deliberately looks backwards. The name Omer has passed through successive generations of the Vander Ghinste brewing family: rather than repeatedly replacing expensive painted pub signs when ownership passed from father to son, the family gave successive heirs the same first name. The beer launched in 2008 revived that family tradition as its identity.

This example cost €1 at a brocante. OMER. is a familiar presence in Belgian cafés and bars, particularly away from the most tourist-facing drinking spots; for the collection, its recognisable glass therefore represents something pleasingly everyday as well as a piece of brewery branding.
