Rebecq
About this Place
Rebecq, in Walloon Brabant, sits in the Senne valley on the Walloon side of the traditional lambic region. Its beer significance comes from Gueuzerie Tilquin, based in the village of Bierghes and described by the company as the only gueuze blendery in Wallonia.
Tilquin’s location is especially interesting because it places a classic lambic and gueuze tradition just across the regional and linguistic boundary from Pajottenland and Brussels. Freshly brewed wort is sourced from producers in those traditional lambic areas, then fermented, matured and blended at Bierghes before bottling.
For the Museum, Rebecq is therefore a neat reminder that the lambic story is not confined entirely to Brussels and Flemish Brabant: a small but important part of it also belongs to Wallonia.
