Manufactured 2015 Curator’s Notes A straightforward Gueuze Tilquin glass from 2015, with a tall, slightly tapered profile and a heavily ribbed lower section characteristic of traditional lambic and gueuze drinking glasses.
The decoration is deliberately restrained: a simple dark-blue circular GUEUZE TILQUIN logo sits above the ribbing, leaving the glass itself to provide most of the visual interest. Its thick base and robust construction give it the practical feel of a vessel designed primarily for regular use rather than display.
The glass dates from the relatively early years of Gueuzerie Tilquin, which began operating in 2009. That makes it a useful object for the Museum despite its sober appearance. Tilquin is not a conventional brewery, but a Walloon gueuze blendery that ferments, matures and blends wort brewed elsewhere in the traditional lambic region.
As a result, this simple glass represents something rather distinctive: a Walloon contribution to a beer tradition more commonly associated with Brussels and Flemish Brabant.
