Lasne (Aywiers)
About this Place
Lasne is a municipality in Walloon Brabant. At Aywiers, near Couture-Saint-Germain, the surviving buildings and gardens of a former Cistercian abbey preserve the memory of a religious community established here in 1215. Saint Lutgarde, the medieval mystic after whom the modern Lutgarde beers are named, spent much of her life at the abbey.
Aywiers’ long brewing history inspired the creation of Brasserie de l’Abbaye d’Aywiers and the Lutgarde beer range in 2017. The present beers use modern recipes and are brewed under contract elsewhere in Belgium.
Visitor notes
The former abbey is privately owned and is not routinely open to visitors. Its seven-hectare gardens can be explored during the Jardins d’Aywiers plant and garden fairs, normally held in spring and autumn.
Dog-friendly
Dogs on leads are welcome during the Jardins d’Aywiers fairs.
