About this Brewery

Brasserie de l’Abbaye d’Aywiers is the company behind Lutgarde, a modern beer range inspired by the former Cistercian abbey at Aywiers, near Lasne. The business was founded in 2017 by brothers Augustin and Victor Limauge, whose family owns the surviving abbey buildings. For almost six centuries the religious community maintained its own brewery, although the present beers use newly developed recipes rather than attempting to reproduce those historic brews.

Lutgarde takes its name from Saint Lutgarde, the thirteenth-century mystic who spent much of her life at Aywiers and appears in the brand’s distinctive imagery. The range includes Blonde, Blanche, IPA, fruit beer and Lulu Pils. The company does not currently operate its own production brewery; its beers are brewed under contract in Belgium.
