Krombeke
About this Place
Krombeke is a small rural village in West Flanders, now part of the municipality of Poperinge. It lies in the Westhoek, in gently rolling agricultural country between Poperinge and Westvleteren.
The village has long been closely tied to farming, including hop growing, although the extent of local hop cultivation has declined over time. Its small centre is built around the parish church and former village square, while the wider landscape remains strongly agricultural.
Krombeke also has a distinctive local tradition of horse racing, with organised races forming part of village life for more than a century.
For the Museum, Krombeke is especially relevant as the home of Nevejan, the business associated with the revival of Kerelsbier in the 1980s.
