About this Brewery

Place: Krombeke

Drankencentrale Nevejan is a drinks business in Krombeke, part of Poperinge in West Flanders, with roots in a much older local brewing family.

The Nevejan family operated several breweries in the region, including Brouwerij Den Keyser in Krombeke. Brewing there ceased during the Second World War, and the wider Nevejan brewing business finally stopped producing beer in the 1960s.

The business later evolved into a drinks merchant while retaining several beer brands associated with the family. One of the best known is Kerelsbier, originally introduced around 1940 and revived by José Nevejan in 1983. The name refers to the Kerels van Vlaanderen, who fought under Nicolaas Zannekin against the French king at Cassel in 1328.

Today, Nevejan no longer brews beer itself. Its beers are produced on its behalf by other breweries; Kerelsbier has been associated with Leroy Breweries, while Nevejan remains the brand owner and local point of identity in Krombeke.
