Jodoigne

Wallonia

About this Place

Jodoigne is a small city in Walloon Brabant, surrounded by the agricultural landscape of the Brabant Hesbaye. Its principal connection with the Museum lies at Jauchelette, one of the municipality’s villages and the site of the former Cistercian Abbaye de La Ramée. The abbey’s name survives through La Ramée beer, although modern production takes place elsewhere.

Visitor notes

Jodoigne’s historic centre is characterised by cobbled streets, buildings constructed from pale local Gobertange stone and several substantial farms and former estates. At Jauchelette, the surviving buildings of La Ramée include its remarkable eighteenth-century farm and monumental tithe barn. The privately owned site is principally used for events, and public access can therefore vary.

The beer is associated with La Ramée Abbey, but brewing no longer takes place at Jodoigne. The existing abbey and tourism links provide the most useful visitor information.
