La Ramée
About this Brewery
La Ramée is a recognised Belgian abbey-beer brand associated with the former Cistercian Abbaye de La Ramée at Jauchelette, near Jodoigne. The religious community was established around 1215, and its estate developed into an important agricultural centre. Historic plans record mills and a brewery among its activities.
The abbey was suppressed during the French Revolutionary period, after which most of its religious buildings disappeared. Its impressive farm and medieval tithe barn survived, however, and are now protected as part of Wallonia’s architectural heritage.
Modern La Ramée beers were revived during the 1990s and gained official recognition as Belgian abbey beers in 2004. Production took place at Brasserie de Brunehaut from 2001 before moving to Brasserie du Bocq at Purnode in 2006. The range has included blonde, blanche, Triple Blonde and Triple Ambrée beers. La Ramée is therefore best understood as an abbey-beer identity rather than a brewery operating at Jauchelette.
