Ingooigem
About this Place
Ingooigem is a rural village in West Flanders, part of the municipality of Anzegem. It lies in the rolling countryside between Kortrijk and Oudenaarde and remains strongly agricultural in character.
The village is particularly associated with the Flemish writer Stijn Streuvels, who built his home, Het Lijsternest, here in 1904–05 and lived and worked there for the rest of his life. Ingooigem and the surrounding landscape became an important setting and influence in his work.
For the Museum, Ingooigem is also the home of BelgaBrew, the family project behind the Yvegem beers. The name “Yvegem” is itself a local form of Ingooigem, making the beer deliberately rooted in the village.
