Courtil

Wallonia

About this Place

Courtil is a small village in the municipality of Gouvy, in the Belgian province of Luxembourg and the landscape of the Haute Ardenne. It retains a strongly rural character, with old farm buildings, large courtyards and traditional stone architecture reflecting its agricultural past.

The village is now best known in brewing terms as the home of Lupulus Brasserie. The brewery occupies a converted nineteenth-century Ardennes farm and has become one of Courtil's principal attractions, while remaining firmly rooted in its rural surroundings.

Visitor notes

The brewery makes Courtil considerably more visitable than its size might suggest. Guided tours take visitors through the brewing facilities and include a tasting, while there is also a brewery shop and an adjoining bar and restaurant. The surrounding countryside lends itself particularly well to walking: several marked routes start in Courtil, and there is also a 12 km walk through fields and woodland connecting Gouvy railway station with the brewery.

Dog-friendly

Dogs are not permitted inside the brewery itself. The rural setting and local walking routes, however, make the surrounding area well suited to exploring with a dog.
