Chimay
About this Place
Chimay is a town in the province of Hainaut, close to the French border in southern Belgium. It is best known for Scourmont Abbey, where Trappist monks have brewed the world-famous Chimay beers since the nineteenth century, making the town one of Belgium's most celebrated brewing destinations.
Visitor notes
Although the abbey itself is not open to visitors, L'Espace Chimay offers an excellent introduction to the brewery's history, Trappist brewing traditions and the beers themselves. The surrounding countryside, château and historic town centre make Chimay an enjoyable destination well beyond its brewing heritage.
Dog-friendly
Dogs are welcome in the town and surrounding public spaces when kept on a lead. Access to indoor visitor attractions and hospitality venues varies, so check current arrangements before travelling.
