About this Brewery

Bières de Chimay SA is the commercial name of the Trappist brewery at the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Scourmont, near Chimay in Hainaut. The abbey was founded in 1850 by monks from Westvleteren, who brewed their first beer in 1862 to help support the local region. Chimay remains one of Belgium’s authentic Trappist breweries: its beers are brewed at the abbey under the supervision of the monks, and the greater part of its profits supports charitable and regional projects. The familiar range includes Chimay Red, Blue, White (Tripel), Gold and 150. Chimay also produces its well-known cheeses, giving the brewery an unusually complete monastic food tradition.
