About this Place

Beersel is a municipality in Flemish Brabant, immediately south of Brussels, combining several villages including Beersel itself, Lot, Alsemberg, Dworp and Huizingen. It sits within the traditional lambic-producing region of the Senne Valley and Pajottenland, and brewing remains an important part of its local identity.

The area is also known for the medieval Beersel Castle, whose surviving towers and fortifications date largely from the fifteenth century, as well as its wooded and semi-rural landscape close to the capital. Beersel is home to several important lambic producers and blenders, including Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen and Oud Beersel, and the local De Lambiek visitor centre is dedicated to the region’s tradition of spontaneous fermentation.
