Affligem

Flanders

About this Place

Affligem is a municipality in Flanders, best known for Affligem Abbey, a Benedictine monastery with a brewing tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. Although the beer is no longer brewed within the abbey itself, the Affligem name remains one of Belgium's most recognised abbey beer brands.

Visitor notes

Most visitors come to Affligem to see the historic abbey rather than a working brewery. The abbey grounds provide a peaceful setting to explore, while the village offers an opportunity to discover the origins of one of Belgium's best-known abbey beers.

Affligem is an easy day trip from Brussels.

Dog-friendly

Dogs are welcome in the village and surrounding public areas when kept on a lead. Access to the abbey buildings may be restricted, so check current visitor arrangements before travelling.
