Manufactured 2025 Curator’s Notes A distinctive house glass used by Brasserie Taymans Brouwerij for its non-lambic beers, including Saison Jetse/Jettoise, Bruxelles IPA and Jett’Amber.
The shape sits somewhere between an ale glass and a tulip. Its upper bowl swells gently before narrowing towards the rim, while the lower section forms a substantial hollow stem that also holds beer. The result is slightly unusual, but very elegant.
Decoration is restrained. The Brasserie Taymans Brouwerij wordmark appears on the front, while the brewery’s shield motif is printed on the reverse in the same deep red. The two elements wrap naturally around the curved bowl rather than competing for attention.
This glass was gifted to me by François Taymans after a visit to the brewery in October 2026. I had explained that the Museum uses beer glasses as a window into Belgium and, increasingly, as a personal record of my time living here. François said that was something worth supporting and went off to find a glass for the collection.
That last part involved disappearing upstairs into what might generously be described as the brewery’s “storeroom” — in reality, various boxes and supplies tucked into whatever space happens to be available. He eventually returned having found one. Somehow, that feels entirely appropriate for Taymans.
