Curator’s Notes

This elegant Rochehaut glass appears to be the brewery’s general house glass rather than one designed for a particular beer.

Its shape sits just on the tulip side of a wine glass. A long, slender stem supports a softly rounded bowl which narrows gently towards the rim, giving the glass a particularly refined appearance.

The decoration is similarly restrained. Above the Rochehaut name, a stylised deer’s head and antlers are picked out in soft white and gold, reflecting the wooded Ardennes landscape surrounding the brewery. Beneath it, the simple words Belgian Beer complete a design which relies more on shape and subtle branding than elaborate decoration.

That understated treatment is an interesting contrast with the brewery’s surroundings. Brasserie de Rochehaut forms part of an extensive visitor complex incorporating restaurants, shops, an agricultural museum and even a forty-hectare wildlife park toured by little train. The glass, rather wonderfully, remains the quiet one in the family.
