Curator’s Notes

This Bertinchamps house glass is a tall, sturdy tumbler with an elongated profile that sits somewhere between a pils glass and the more traditional straight-sided glasses often used for lambic. Its proportions give it an elegant appearance without making it feel delicate.

The decoration is restrained. A large black B dominates the front, accompanied by the Bertinchamps name and a simple ear-of-wheat motif beneath. The brewery uses the letter B as a deliberately flexible part of its identity, referring variously to Bertinchamps, Belgium, Beer and Benoît, the family’s brewer.

The lower part of the glass has a moulded, square-faceted texture on the inside, adding visual interest and giving the glass a more substantial feel. This appears to be a decorative feature rather than a conventional nucleation mark.

Its combination of simple branding, robust construction and slightly unusual form suits Bertinchamps well: modern in presentation, but rooted in a traditional Belgian farm-brewery setting.
