Curator’s Notes

Identical in shape to the Yellow Flo glass, this elegant stemmed goblet uses its decoration to tell a completely different sporting story. The black graphics of its companion are replaced by vivid red, while small details resembling the markings of a rev counter provide the first clue.

Red Flo is a 7.5% tripel created in tribute to Belgian racing driver Jacky Ickx. The red identity refers to his motor-racing career and, more specifically, the red Ferrari in which he won the German Grand Prix in 1972. What initially looks like abstract graphic decoration therefore turns out to be a playful piece of motor-racing imagery.

I paid €0.50 for this glass at the same brocante. Displayed alongside Yellow Flo (BBG087), the pair reveals what Les Brasseries de Flobecq was doing: using essentially identical glassware to celebrate two very different Belgian sporting heroes.
