Manufactured 2015 Curator’s Notes This 25 cl glass is a smaller contemporary of BBG001, sharing much the same elegant proportions: a generous rounded bowl, long stem and broad circular foot.
Its decoration is considerably more elaborate. One face combines Wipers Times and Kazematten branding with a finely drawn thistle motif. The thistle is borrowed from the original Wipers Times trench newspaper and has an additional connection to the beer itself: Wipers Times Blond is brewed with four herbs, one of which is the seed of Saint Mary's Thistle, also known as blessed thistle. Kazematten deliberately uses the same historic motif in the beer's identity.
The reverse reveals another identity altogether: the elaborate Grotten emblem belongs to Grotten Santé, another Kazematten beer. The glass therefore appears to have been designed to serve both beers, making the contrasting treatment particularly striking — restrained military-inspired graphics on one face and the much more ornate Grotten imagery on the other.
Like BBG001, this glass was given to me by Kazematten's head brewer during a visit to the brewery in Ypres in May 2026.
