About this Brewery
Brasserie St-Feuillien is an independent family brewery in Le Rœulx, Hainaut. It was founded in 1873 by Stéphanie Friart, an unusually prominent female figure in nineteenth-century Belgian brewing. Five generations of the Friart family have subsequently guided the business.
Its name recalls the Irish missionary Feuillien, who was murdered in the area in 655. An abbey established in his memory at Le Rœulx in 1125 became an important religious and economic centre, with brewing among its activities. The abbey was suppressed during the French Revolutionary period in 1796, but its name and brewing heritage were later revived by the Friart family.
The brewery produces the recognised St-Feuillien abbey beers, including Blonde, Brune, Triple and Cuvée de Noël. Its wider range includes Grand Cru, Saison and Grisette, a revival of a traditional beer style associated with the mining districts of Hainaut. Guided visits to the historic brewery are normally offered on Saturday afternoons.
