About this Brewery

Leroy Breweries is an independent West Flanders family brewing group formed from two historic breweries: Het Sas in Boezinge and Van Eecke in Watou. Het Sas was founded beside the Boezinge lock in 1572, destroyed during the First World War and rebuilt in 1924. Van Eecke began in 1624 as the castle brewery of the Count of Watou; it passed to the Leroy family through family ties in 1962.

The two businesses were formally brought together as Leroy Breweries in 2016. The group’s range preserves both identities, including Sas Premium Pils, Cuvée Watou, Poperings Hommelbier and the Kapittel Watou abbey beers. Leroy Breweries is now led by the tenth and eleventh generations of the family. In 2026 it also acquired Brouwerij Kazematten in Ypres, while retaining that brewery’s separate character and recipes.
