About this Brewery
Brouwerij Corsendonk NV is the company behind the Corsendonk abbey-beer brand, rather than a working brewery at the former Priory of Corsendonk. That Augustinian priory at Oud-Turnhout had its own brewery and malt-house from its foundation in 1398, but both were closed in 1784 by order of Emperor Joseph II. The modern beer story began in 1982, when Jef Keersmaekers revived the Corsendonk name for a new abbey-beer range. **Corsendonk Pater** and **Corsendonk Agnus** became the best-known beers, followed by Christmas Ale and other variants. The beers are brewed under contract at Brasserie du Bocq in Purnode, Wallonia, while the Corsendonk name preserves the memory of the old priory and its brewing tradition.
