About this Brewery

Place: Brussels

No Science was a small Brussels microbrewery founded in 2016 by Maxime Dumay and Manuel Mengoni. The brewery established itself near Tour & Taxis and became part of the wave of independent breweries that helped reshape Brussels beer culture during the 2010s.

Its beers deliberately looked beyond traditional Belgian styles. No Science drew heavily on British and alternative beer culture, producing pale ales, porters and other characterful but approachable beers. The brewery also developed a strong music-inspired identity, with names such as Sabotage, Stoner Witch, Heavy Porter and Da Funk, matched by distinctive black, white and red artwork.

The name itself reflected the founders’ deliberately informal approach: they described themselves as enthusiastic amateur brewers rather than technically trained brewing scientists.

After several difficult years marked by the effects of Covid, rising energy and raw-material costs, and increasing pressure on small breweries, No Science was declared bankrupt in May 2023 and closed after around seven years of operation.

For the Museum, No Science represents a recent but already vanished chapter in Brussels’ modern craft-brewing revival: small-scale, urban, experimental and closely connected to the city’s alternative cultural scene.
