Roeselare
About this Place
Roeselare is a town in the province of West Flanders and is internationally recognised as the home of Brouwerij Rodenbach, whose distinctive Flemish Red Ales have become one of Belgium's most celebrated beer styles. The brewery's vast oak maturation casks, some of which are over a century old, play an important role in creating the beers' characteristic balance of fruit, acidity and complexity.
Beyond its brewing heritage, Roeselare is a lively regional town with an attractive centre, parks and cafés, making it a pleasant place to explore. For beer enthusiasts, however, it is the enduring legacy of Rodenbach and the unique tradition of Flemish Red Ale that firmly secures Roeselare's place in the Museum.
Visitor notes
If you're interested in Belgian beer, Roeselare is well worth including on your itinerary. Brouwerij Rodenbach is the obvious highlight and offers a fascinating insight into one of Belgium's most distinctive brewing traditions.
The town itself is compact enough to explore on foot, with plenty of places to enjoy lunch or a coffee before or after your visit. While Roeselare may not attract the same attention as Bruges or Ghent, it offers something rather different: the opportunity to discover a brewing tradition that has influenced beer makers around the world.
Dog-friendly
Dogs are welcome in many of Roeselare's public spaces and parks. Brewery tours may have their own restrictions, so it's worth checking in advance if you're planning to visit Rodenbach or other indoor attractions.
