Mont Saint Guibert
About this Place
Mont-Saint-Guibert is a municipality in the province of Walloon Brabant, situated south of Brussels. Although today it is largely a residential community with a growing business sector, the village has a long industrial and brewing heritage.
For much of the twentieth century, Mont-Saint-Guibert was synonymous with Brasserie Grade, where the celebrated Vieux Temps beer was brewed. Introduced in 1930, Vieux Temps became one of Belgium's best-known beers and remained closely associated with the village until brewing ceased there in 1996. The municipality's brewing traditions continue today through Brasserie de l'Orne, reflecting a local heritage that stretches back many centuries. Mont-Saint-Guibert is included in the Museum as the historic home of Vieux Temps and an enduring part of Wallonia's brewing story.
Visitor notes
Mont-Saint-Guibert is primarily a destination for visitors interested in Belgium's brewing heritage rather than its architecture or major attractions. While little remains of the former Brasserie Grade, the village retains its place in beer history as the birthplace of Vieux Temps, and Brasserie de l'Orne continues the local brewing tradition.
