Jumet
About this Place
Jumet is a district of Charleroi, in the province of Hainaut, Wallonia. Once an independent municipality, it became part of greater Charleroi in the municipal mergers of 1977.
Its history is strongly industrial. Jumet was an important centre for glassmaking, mining and manufacturing; large glassworks such as Bivort employed substantial numbers of local people and helped shape the area’s working-class character.
For the Museum, Jumet is particularly relevant as the former home of Brasserie Union, once an important local brewery and the producer of Cuvée de l’Ermitage.
