Hainaut

Wallonia

About this Place

Hainaut is the westernmost province of Wallonia, extending from the French border to the centre of Belgium. It includes major cities such as Mons, Charleroi and Tournai, alongside smaller towns and rural communities with distinct industrial, agricultural and cultural histories.

For the Museum, Hainaut is particularly important for its brewing heritage. The province is strongly associated with saison and remains home to breweries including Brasserie Dupont at Tourpes, Brasserie Dubuisson at Pipaix, Brasserie Saint-Feuillien at Le Roeulx, Brasserie des Légendes at Irchonwelz and Brasserie du Val de Sambre at Thuin. Several of these places and breweries are covered individually elsewhere in the Museum.

Visitor notes

Hainaut is a varied province rather than a single visitor destination. Its principal cities, former industrial communities and more rural western areas are best explored through their individual place pages.
