Gullegem
About this Place
Gullegem is a village in West Flanders, now part of the municipality of Wevelgem, just north of Kortrijk. It has been part of Wevelgem since the municipal mergers of 1977.
The village has medieval roots: its name appears in records from 1066 as Godelinchehem, meaning roughly “the home of the people of Godilo”. Today Gullegem is a mixture of residential, industrial and rural landscapes, with the Heulebeek running through the area and the Bergelen provincial domain close by.
For the Museum, Gullegem is relevant as the home of Brouwerij Biermaekers, the beer company behind the BUX range. The municipality of Wevelgem itself lists BUX among its local products.
