About this Brewery
Brasserie de Waterloo operates at the historic Ferme de Mont-Saint-Jean, close to the battlefield of Waterloo. During the battle of 18 June 1815, the farm served as a field hospital for Wellington’s army, treating thousands of wounded soldiers.
The modern Waterloo beer brand was revived in 2005 by entrepreneur Adrien Desclée, with its beers initially contract-brewed by Brasserie du Bocq. Desclée entered into partnership with the John Martin family business in 2013. John Martin acquired the neglected Mont-Saint-Jean farm the following year and restored it as a brewery, visitor attraction and distillery in time for the battle’s bicentenary in 2015.
The brewery uses water drawn from the farm’s own well and incorporates locally grown cereals into several beers. Its range includes Waterloo Triple Blonde, Double Brune, Récolte Saison, Red Cherry and Grand Cru. The restored farm also contains a restaurant, shop, museum and beer garden, making it one of Belgium’s more substantial brewery visitor sites.
