Eupener Bierbrauerei
About this Brewery
Eupener Bierbrauerei was Belgium’s only German-speaking brewery, based in Eupen in the eastern cantons. The company was formed in 1897 through the merger of two older local breweries: the Körfer brewery, whose history reached back to around 1685, and the Delhougne brewery, founded in 1834. Its best-known beer was Eupener, a pale pilsner closely associated with the town.
The brewery ran into difficulty during the 1990s and was acquired by Brouwerij Haacht in 1998. Brewing at Eupen then ceased, but Eupener Bier has continued to be brewed by Haacht to the traditional recipe and remains a regional beer. The original Eupen brewery is therefore an important historic entry, even though it is no longer a working brewery.
