About this Brewery

Place: Overijse

Brouwerij Lootvoet was a family brewery in Overijse, Flemish Brabant. Albert Lootvoet acquired an existing brewery on the Waversesteenweg in 1922 and developed it under the family name.

After the Second World War, Lootvoet became known for speciality beers. Its most important development came in 1952, when Albert Lootvoet and the Abbey of Leffe agreed to revive the abbey’s brewing tradition. Leffe was subsequently brewed at Overijse, while Brouwerij Artois became the principal shareholder in Lootvoet in 1954.

The brewery also produced occasional commemorative beers, including Rubensbier for the 1977 Rubens Year. Production was transferred from Overijse to Mont-Saint-Guibert during the late 1970s and the brewery closed. Its surviving buildings have since been converted into apartments, although the former brewery complex remains recognised as architectural heritage.
