About this Brewery

Place: Vielsalm

Brasserie Detrembleur is a family brewery based in Grand-Halleux, within the municipality of Vielsalm in the Belgian Ardennes.

The brewery traces its modern story to Léon Detrembleur, who began working in brewing in the 1960s before establishing his own operation beside the River Salm in 1982. His son André gradually took over the business, and in 1993 they launched their first beer under the name La Vieille Salme.

The brewery has since developed a small range of beers drawing heavily on the identity and folklore of the Vielsalm area. These include La Vieille Salme, La Myrtille d’Amélie, L’Aurore de la Salm, Li Neurre Biesse d’Ivier and L’Ange de la Salme.

The business remains closely tied to the local region. Its shop sells not only the brewery’s beers but also a wide range of other drinks and local products, while the brewery itself can be visited by reservation. Tours last about 30 minutes and include the brewhouse, fermentation area and a tasting of three house beers in the brewery’s small bar.

The brewery’s public-facing identity is often presented as La Vieille Salme, but the Belgian brewing company itself is Brasserie A. Detrembleur.
