About this Brewery

Brasserie Piedboeuf is the historic Jupille-sur-Meuse brewery behind Jupiler, Belgium’s best-known pilsner. The Piedboeuf family began brewing there in 1853, having first made steam boilers and equipment for other breweries. Its original beer was Jupiler Urtyp, launched in 1959 and named after Jupille. In 1966 the brewery introduced Jupiler 5: the “5” referred both to its 5% strength and five ingredients. The beer’s success made Jupiler a national fixture.

In 1987 Brasserie Piedboeuf merged with Brouwerij Artois of Leuven to create Interbrew, one of the foundations of today’s AB InBev. Brewing continues at Jupille-sur-Meuse, while the enduring red bull emblem has become one of the most recognisable symbols in Belgian beer.
