Brouwerij De Gouden Boom
About this Brewery
Brouwerij De Gouden Boom was a historic Bruges brewery whose site had a brewing and distilling connection stretching back for centuries. The modern brewery developed from the former ’t Hamerken brewery and took the name De Gouden Boom in 1983, after the golden tree awarded at the famous Bruges tournament of 1468. It became known for the **Steenbrugge** abbey beers and for **Brugge Tripel**, a strong amber tripel launched in 1987. Brugge Tripel uses a distinctive blend of herbs and spices known as gruut, recalling the medieval Bruges tradition in which brewers were required to buy this mixture from the city’s Gruuthuse. Palm acquired De Gouden Boom in 2001; brewing left Bruges for Palm’s Steenhuffel brewery in 2004, and the historic brewery finally closed soon afterwards.
